The CUPW strike and severe weather conditions have increased package volume, creating delays for Purolator. Purolator is supporting the largest volumes they have ever seen, with a backlog of approximately 1.5 million packages in their network. To combat growing delays, Purolator is throttling some customers’ package volume, and completely stopping pickups for many of their freight reseller customers. The businesses who have lost access to their services have been informed.
Fortunately, due to Positive Fulfillment Service’s strong relationship with Purolator and our close proximity to Purolator’s largest hub, our shipments continue to be picked up even with Purolator seeing significant volume increases. In the event that Purolator’s situation worsens, Positive will continue to work with customers to mitigate service delays.
While we maintain our regular Canadian fulfillment, we still face the following delays. Express and Health Care shipments are facing one to two days delay in certain regions.
The Atlantic region of Canada may experience a one-day delay. Air shipments through YYT (St. Johns) may experience minor delays.
Shipments to Central Ontario should only be impacted by a day—with the exception of Ottawa and similar regions, where we expect up to four days of delay.
Shipments to Northern Ontario, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan will experience up to four days of delay.
Shipments to Alberta may experience up to five days of delay.
Shipments to British Columbia may experience up to six days of delay. Air shipment through YVR Vancouver and the Richmond Hub will likely experience delays. In addition, expect delays for Purolator’s other services, such as invoice support, track and trace, and etc.
Future delays may occur at YVR Vancouver due to a potential strike with the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 502. Employed by SGS Canada, this strike would impact jet fuel deliveries to the airport.
To recap, Positive Fulfilment Services will not be cut off from Purolator’s services. Positive will only be impacted by Purolator’s delays in some regions of Central Ontario and deliveries made to the West of Canada.
